This is a combat sound redesign project for Black Myth: Wukong, with a primary focus on delivering impactful and responsive audio tailored to the action RPG genre and the game’s dynamic flow.
To match the gameplay structure—where the weight and satisfaction of the final hit are critical—I clearly distinguished between regular attacks and finishing blows by layering various textures of impact and whoosh sounds.
To preserve an oriental sonic texture, I incorporated custom-recorded sources into granular synthesis and used a metallic whoosh generator built in Max/MSP for selected layers.
Considering the complexity of battle scenes, sounds were prioritized and separated by function to maintain clarity, and the mix was structured to ensure essential feedback elements remained audible.
I also recorded, edited, and processed the combat voice lines for both the boss character Erlang and the protagonist Wukong, enhancing both the immersive quality of the battle and the presence of each character.
